Tips to staying awake

Misery loves company. That's what I learnt last night when preparing for Jury One. There I was schmoozing over my table trying to do my model and fighting to keep awake when Audrey MSNed me and told me she had some work to do so she would probably not sleep as well. For an instant, I felt like I was not alone and I had company for the rest of the night even though it was via MSN. At least we could keep each other company. For people who have trouble keeping awake late at night due to assignment deadlines, here are a few handy tried and tested tips that have helped me stay away from the lure of my bed and pillows. Especially for my studio mates, we inevitably have to forgo days of sleep whenever Jury comes around, so these handy tips can also be done with a group of people if overnight studio sessions are in season.

Tip #1: Drinking water helps. I don't like coffee, so I turn to water as an alternative. It really helps to have a ready supply of water an arm's reach away so you need not keep traipsing between your room and the kitchen to get a glass of water. Therefore I love my mini penguin water dispenser. I'm glad I bought it. The downside to this is that the effect does not last long so you gotta keep chugging it down. In the long run, you'll thank me for clearer skin, and effective detoxification of your system because water is good for you. In addition, the frequent trips to the loo would help keep you awake.

Tip #2: Music. Sing loudly to songs you like, engage in some feet-tapping and head banging if it suits your style. It'll be good to pretend to be a singer shooting some MTV or holding a concert. It helps to get you more involved in the song so it momentarily takes away any sleepiness. Songs from Spice Girls, M2M, Boyzone, etc. helps. OK, I'm kidding. Although Spice Girls are on my song lineups for the night.

Tip #3: Dance. Not full out So You Think You Can Dance kind of dances, but simple butt shaking and arm waving kind of dances. Coupled with Tip #2, you should be able to stay awake effectively. You could always do something vigorous if you think it helps you stay awake better. Whatever floats your boat.

Tip #4: Push-ups or sit-ups. Keeps you awake, and helps you stay fit and healthy, so by the end of the semester, you'll not only have good completed work, but also a smashing body to boot. Win-Win situation.
