Monday blues

My foray into the working world saw me mingling with the Shenton Way office crowd. A crowd which I never thought myself a part of, especially not while I'm still schooling. The past two weeks have been a daily rigmarole of waking up at 530am, leaving the house by 715am, squeezing on the train or bus with the rest of the world [yes, my world's very small], and then spending 8 hours behind the desk, and underneath a mountain of personnel files, documents, more files, and more documents. I'm a boring person so I like boring things, so I'm still far from leaping out of the ground floor window behind me from boredom and redundancy because time seems to past relatively quickly at work, a job which was supposed to end last Friday, but which got extended because they have alot of packing, organising, sorting, etc. to do, and so I am now behind my desk blogging. They've given me some typing to do so with the computer on, the Internet's not far away. All I had to do was plug in one simple cable and voila! connection with the rest of the world outside my cubicle.

The job's alright overall. My only gripe about it is how I'm doing things outside my scope of work. When the agency placed this job in my lap, they told me that all I had to do was sort out personnel files. Easy peasy, and which should have ended last week, but because of the slow inefficiency of the HR department, they lagged behind in piling my 'IN tray' with work that I was supposed to do, and instead gave me jobs like packing the cupboard or the storeroom and organising their staff party/BBQ/games/etc. paraphernalia because I have finished all that I was given for the time being so I guess they just wanted to keep me busy until the work's ready to be passed over. If I was spoilt and temperamental and an overall prissy Miss, I would have complained to the agency, but since I'm used to being anal-retentive and an organisational freak, I packed the cupboard without much complaints [verbal] and finished the job so quick they were surprised. Thankfully by then it was nearly time for me to leave so they didn't throw some toilet bowl scrubbing duties to me.

Maybe another gripe I have about working 8 hours a day, 5 days week, is that my feet have started going to Hong Kong because of all the covered shoes I'm wearing. So I usually remove my shoes when I'm safely behind the desk and in the confines of my cubicle to air my feet out, but the smell occasionally travels upwards, and upon reaching home, I have to air each pair of shoes for at least 3 days in the balcony before I wear them again, and scrub my feet with Dettol [it really helps]. Sometimes it's a good thing to own several pairs of shoes. I can't wait to end this job so my feet can be comfortably aired out in my slippers again. Hopefully it'll end by mid-week, which they promised me over lunch last week, but I'm not seeing any rays of hope on the horizon yet. At least I'm earning enough money per week, which compensates for much.
