Day #2

Location: Gloucester Place, London

So begins my adventures [so to speak] in London. Day Two was dedicated to exploring the Piccadilly Line such as the nice crooked brick homes, the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and abit of shopping for Daniel's weird hat and clothes for Mom and myself. There's something about going out alone that's great because you abide by no one's schedule but your own. All great, but that also means your timing's more flexible and I left the apartment later than I intended to, hence I had to skip exploring the countryside and taking photos of the nice houses because there would be people walking around and it would be weird and creepy if they see me taking pictures of their home. So I made my way down to Russell Square for the British Museum.

I spent three and a half hours at the British Museum. It was seriously cool. Especially when I stepped into the Great Court. Until now, all I have seen of the Great Court are the images in architectural books while doing research for school assignments, so it's awesome. It's like stepping into the book myself.

Admission and most of the exhibitions are free [which was why I was there in the first place] bar some which doesn't really matter whether I see them or not. I started my exploration in the Enlightenment Exhibition and it was nice seeing most of the things I have studied about in JC. Being among old books and materials dating back to the 16th century and maybe even earlier, really takes your breath away. I spent a good hour in that room itself just looking at all the old dusty books and collections.

After I was done with the Enlightenment, I headed off to the rest of the exhibitions, and maybe I was getting sleepy or my contact lenses were getting blurry, but nothing much really interested me until I went up to the second floor to see the Egyptian mummies, but I was adamant that I had to see all I can because it is the British Museum, and because I probably won't get to see it ever again. The mummies were cool though. The actual mummy of Cleopatra of Thebes was rad but that's because I didn't recognize the names of the others. Still awesome though.

Perhaps it's old age, but I find that I can't walk around for too long anymore because after three and a half hours in the Museum, my soles were aching. But I'm in London, so every second counts. I traipsed across the street to this souvenir shop to see what cheap stuff I could find, and I bought this cute London phone booth pencil case. Whee. Then I tried to do some shopping around Leicester Square and Oxford Circus, but I must have gotten my bearings wrong because I couldn't remember which way to walk and I ended up in London's Chinatown. After awhile I got tired so I bought some Krispy Kreme donuts [best in the world but too sweet] and went back to crash out on the bed.
