Another scam

Recently, something I did long ago came around to bite me in the butt. Not exactly the phrasing I would have used, but somewhere along those lines. See, a few years back, I registered with this penpal site thingamajig on a whim, just to see how many people from all over the world I could get to know. It was an exciting prospect back then partly because I was bored, and also because I have gotten to know some truly lovely people. Everything died down after a few weeks though because I got too lazy to reply to mails. I never received any new messages until a few nights ago. So being the friendly lass I am, I decided to reply, and even though there was sort of a language barrier [it was pretty horrid English from the fella because he said he was from some non-English speaking country], he managed to understand me 80% of the time. Basically it was just a few short emails about what he does in school and in his free time. So after 4 emails, he mentioned that he was getting kicked out of university because he owes the school US$500. I instantly knew what was coming next when I tried to be sympathetic and replied with a "What happened?". He sent me the following email asking if I could help out by transferring money to some Western Union account because school means alot to him. Now why do some people constantly insult our intelligence and assume that there's nothing going on between our ears. It was such a poorly constructed excuse that I am appalled that elsewhere, there are people who actually fall for similar emails and get cheated at the end of it all. Even if I was loaded and brainless, I wouldn't send money to someone I only knew through 4 short emails. Some people really have got to either find something constructive to do with their time, or grow a brain.
