random ravings of Tracy Lum...

This entry is gonna be a loooong one. Decided to address some issues and also to let off some steam. Here goes:

Issue #1:
"WHY ARE KIDS IN SUCH A HURRY TO GROW UP?"

Why are kids and pre-teenagers so eager to grow up? Why do they have the impression that the lives of older people (17 year-olds and above) are so fine and dandy? Whoever thinks that the older youths have it easy should just stuff their heads in a bucket of hydrochloric acid. Those who think that PSLE is the biggest obstacle in their lives have obviously NOT graduated from the Barney and Friends club. Hey kiddos, take it from someone who has been through adolescence: Treasure your childhood while you still can. You have no idea the amount of stress, pressure and responsibilities that we older ones face and all these will just keep on piling up as you grow older. So don't be in such a hurry to grow up and stop trying to act older than what you are by trying to mix with people way older than you without first establishing firm friendships with people your age. On one hand, you want people to treat you like responsible young adults, but on the other hand, you contradict yourselves by doing silly childish things like running around and smacking people. You think that's cute? Think again bucko. It's extremely annoying and it's terribly irksome. Therefore, how do you expect people to take you seriously and pay attention to you when you guys have this incredible tendency to revert back to Barney club actions and behaviour? Absolutely juvenile. Many may think I'm being scathing and unsympathetic. Hello?! You think I'm Aunt Aggie or something? I'm simply putting things into perspective. People cannot go around giving way to you kids all the time just because you kiddos are still in the Mickey Mouse Club. Think about it.

Issue #2:
"GUYS AND SEXISM"

Recently I came across this particular conversation on MSN between my friend and a guy:

Guy: Why don't you try wearing more skirts and dresses and putting on makeup?
Girl: What's it to you? I like myself the way I am.
Guy: I'm sure more guys will go after you if you do so.
Girl: If guys don't like me for who I am, then why should I bother?
Guy: That's not what I'm saying. I'm just saying that dressing up more would help.
Girl: I'm not going to waste my time arguing over sexist remarks because it's worthless.
Guy: I'm not being sexist. I'm just stating my frank opinion.

What's up with guys (not all guys...just a handful)? Why do they keep insisting that girls should wear skirts and dresses and put on makeup and prance around with ribbons in their hair like a total bimbo? Don't give us girls the rubbish about how it's "your frank opinion" on how girls should look. You males are just telling us what YOU want to see. Doesn't that make you sexist? And not to mention, shallow. This perfectly enhances the point that the male species only looks at a person's outer appearance rather than a person's character. Real shallow. Come on guys. We girls don't expect you to be tall, dark, and handsome because then, 3/4 of YOUR male population would not even come close to fitting the bill. So be content with what you see because that's exactly what you will be getting. Take it or leave it. If you're not satisfied, kindly proceed down to places like Geylang where you'll find many ladies in skirts and dresses and heavy makeup who are more than willing to provide you with their services for just a small sum of money. This way, not only will your male chauvinistic needs be met, but you'll also help to contribute to the survival of this particular sector of the economy. So stop going around trying to dictate what we girls should look like because we don't give two hoots about your ideas. Go tell it to someone who cares.

There!! Finally let off some steam. I feel so much better now. Well, if anyone feels otherwise about my ravings, feel free to rebut them. It's a liberal world. I'm not stopping you.
